Fanwood Presbyterian Church History

First, there was an idea. . . Then there was a gathering. . .
Today there is a campus complete with a beautiful church, a two-story education building, two memorial gardens and a playground. In between is the history of Fanwood Presbyterian Church.

A group of 65 worshippers set the stage for Fanwood’s first church. Within 20 years, a second building was needed to accommodate the burgeoning congregation.
By the end of the church’s first quarter-century, the 1000th member had joined the congregation. more

Ground was broken in 1956 for a new sanctuary, as membership topped 1,200.
Mission and social service became hallmarks of the congregation.
In keeping with tradition, a fund drive to support capital improvements also financed mission projects. more

Major renovations marked the beginning of the church’s third quarter-century. Westminster Preschool was established and quickly became one of the most popular Christian preschools in the area.
The church began a relationship with Temple Sholom while the Jewish congregation seeks a permanent home. more

A new mission statement helps the church in its search for a permanent minister.
The Wells of Salvation fund drive will support capital improvements as well as mission projects near and far.
Fanwood Presbyterian Church looks to its history for inspiration as it continues its journey of faith. more
